The Saudi capital, Riyadh, will host on Tuesday the 48th Conference of the General Assembly of Federation of Arab News Agencies (FANA) session with the participation of the heads of FANA member agencies.

During the two-day conference, Qatar will be represented by the Director-General of Qatar News Agency (QNA) Ahmed Said Jaber Al Rumaihi.

The conference will discuss ways to develop the media performance of member agencies and enhance their presence on the international media scene. It will also review FANA's activities in 2021 and the 2022 work program.

During the conference, the president, two vice presidents, members of the general secretariat, and the secretary-general of FANA will be elected and the agencies that won FANA's two awards for the best report and pictures will be announced.

Director of the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) Fahd bin Hassan Al Aqran stressed that the conference comes as a continuation of the efforts made during FANA's march, which is now among the top three international news organizations, and to push forward joint efforts aimed at developing the work of member agencies and improving their roles as an influential source, at a time the trends of civil news organizations and the expansion of the publishing space through modern technology posed a challenge to the accuracy of the contents of media messages.

He stressed that the conference slogan, "the role of a news agency in addressing fake news," reflects the importance of these media institutions and their influence at the internal and external levels as a reliable source for the transfer and flow of information, stressing the significance of joining efforts among FANA members to realize a development leap in performance and tools of the media discourse.
