Mowasalat (Karwa) has set up the region's first AdBlue filling station for large-scale bus operations as part of its efforts to minimise emissions while meeting increased demand, it was announced Tuesday.
AdBlue is an agent injected into the exhaust pipeline of diesel buses. In a chemical reaction, AdBlue reduces the release of harmful pollutants into the atmosphere, a statement explained.
The expansion of the company’s conventional filling stations to include AdBlue pumps combine the normal fuelling with a regular refill with the agent. This is convenient, streamlines operations for hundreds of buses and helps Mowasalat (Karwa) to support the State’s environment policy, in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.
In addition to its electric vehicles, Mowasalat (Karwa) has acquired a fleet of diesel vehicles with Euro 5 Standard. They are equipped with one of the latest filtration systems to remove particulate matter from exhausts, reducing it to the equivalent of one grain of sand per km driven.
Ahmed al-Obaidly, Mowasalat (Karwa) chief operating officer, said: “With the guidance of the Ministry of Transport, we are constantly working towards a greener and healthier environment in Qatar. This project is a natural continuation of our sustainability initiatives. It is our mandate to lead the way in the transition from conventional towards emission-free engines in the public transport network. For the time being we will utilise this best-in-class diesel technology until we ultimately reach a full electrification of our fleet.”
Mowasalat (Karwa) has deployed the new vehicles during international events and will gradually replace the old rolling stock until 2023.
