A founding faculty member at Hamad Bin Khalifa University ( HBKU) will co-chair the fourth European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE) Well Injectivity/Productivity and Reservoir Management In Carbonates (WIPIC) Workshop to be held in Doha from March 21 to 23.
Dr Ahmad Sami Abushaikha, a founding faculty member at HBKU, and currently an associate professor at the College of Science and Engineering’s Division of Sustainable Development at HBKU, is a co-chair of the event, along with Dr Herbert Lescanne of TotalEnergies.
The management of carbonate reserves worldwide will be in the spotlight during the workshop, which follows on from the successful workshop held in November 2019, also in Doha.
Representatives from national and international oil companies, service providers, universities and research institutes will be attending. Topics to be covered include waterflooding, gas flooding, water alternating gas, the use of data analytics and machine learning for optimising oil and gas field development and reservoir management, well injectivity, productivity and stimulation, the role of sustainability and its impact, reservoir simulation and forecasting, blue hydrogen and artificial intelligence.
Dr Abushaikha said, “This workshop is an excellent opportunity to share expertise and knowledge and to foster new collaborations. WIPIC is the perfect venue to learn from the experts, engineers, and academics. It comes at a time where much-needed investments and collaborations are crucial for the oil and gas industry. We believe that a multi-disciplinary approach is the next step forward for better reservoir management of carbonate reservoirs, and this what this workshop is all about.”
Following feedback and success from the previous events, the scope of the workshop has been expanded to cover the entire reservoir and not just the wells.
The workshop will appeal to subsurface specialists in well stimulation and completion, log analysis, petrophysics, pressure transient analysis, reservoir geology and geophysics, applied mathematics, data science, geostatistics, reservoir engineering, as well as subsurface generalists and reservoir managers.
Submissions have already been invited on a range of multi-disciplinary topics across the range of reservoir management. The early registration deadline for the event is January 15 while the regular registration deadline is February 15.
