The Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) is set to open four new health centres in the upcoming two years, Ayesha Khalil, a senior architect at the Engineering Projects
Department at PHCC has told local Arabic daily 'Arrayah'. The new centres are coming up at Al Khor, Umm Al Saneem, Al Mashaf and Al Sadd, she explained. By 2023, PHCC would have a total of 31 centres.
According to the Healthcare Facilities Master Plan (QHFMP), issued by the Ministry of Public Health, four other new health centers are set to be constructed after 2025, Khalil said.
These comprise two centres replacing those at Umm Ghuwailina and Madinat Khalifa and two new centres at Bani Hajar and Nuaija.
Once the PHCC receives the completed buildings from the Public Works Authority (Ashghal), it takes two to three months in addition to a week of experimental and testing operations before the official opening to ensure that everything will work as planned.
The Engineering Projects Department at PHCC is undertaking the task of upgrading the old health centres by renovating and expanding the buildings to increase the number of clinics and other supporting services to keep pace with the remarkable development in the health care services in the country, observed head Mohamed al-Rawashda.
Recently the expansion and upgrading of both Al Rayyan and Al Kaaban health centres were accomplished, he added.
