The College of Public Policy (CPP) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) with the University of Maryland (UMD), has launched an executive course combining the expertise and resources of the two institutions.
Programme administrators, managers, and policymakers are invited to sign up for the executive course taking place in February entitled Improving Programmes through Performance Measurement and Management.
It is designed to give participants the tools to design and use performance measures that can monitor programme efficiency and effectiveness and to implement management techniques that apply performance data to improve programmes.
Topics for the three-day course include using logic models to identify performance indicators, operationalising measures and performance targets, monitoring programme processes and conducting performance evaluations, measuring programme effectiveness, cost-effectiveness analyses, and management techniques that use performance data to improve programmes. An optional fourth day will focus on using performance data to improve programmes.
Dr Anis Ben Brik, associate professor of evaluation at CPP, said: “We are delighted that, thanks to our recent Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Maryland, this collaboration can take place. It further solidifies our relationship with this prestigious institution and helps to put the course in a global context. The UMD School of Public Policy ranks among the top 25 graduate schools of public policy in the US, and we are confident this course will provide invaluable practical experience that participants can put to use in their everyday lives.”
The course instructors comprise Dr Ben Brik, Dr Douglas Besharov, professor, UMD School of Public Policy, Dr Douglas Call, deputy director, UMD Centre for International Policy Exchanges, Dr David Myers, president and CEO, American Institutes for Research and Dr David Seidenfeld, vice-president for International Research and Evaluation at the American Institutes for Research.
The programme will be delivered in English and takes place between February 13 and 16, from 8am to 3pm at the Minaretein building, Education City. Upon completion of the programme, HBKU and UMD will provide a joint certification for participants.
