Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Qatar Rashad Ismayilov stressed the strength of the bilateral relations between Qatar and his country, as well as the endeavours and continuous efforts of the two friendly countries to strengthen and consolidate these relations in all fields.
In a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), the ambassador said, "We consider bilateral relations between the State of Qatar and the Republic of Azerbaijan as strong and both the friendly countries make continuous efforts to strengthen existing ties in all spheres. As for the latest developments in the bilateral co-operation, it should be noted that this year was productive in terms of fostering co-operation between Azerbaijan and Qatar in a number of fields.Thus, recently we held two important events in Baku, on September 7 this year we had the second round of bilateral political consultations and on October 18, Azerbaijan-Qatar Joint Economic, Trade and Technical Commission held its third meeting. Besides, we held this year via video conference the second meeting of the Joint Investment Working Group on 22 February and "Qatar-Azerbaijani Business Meeting" on 2 March proceeded with B2B meetings."
The envoy added: "Unfortunately, the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic has been negatively affecting all countries and spheres, making us to change our habits and way of life. Besides the healthcare sector national economies are under the highest pressure. Nevertheless, despite the still existing serious challenges globally, thanks to well thought-out relevant policies some countries were successful in overcoming problems on the way of securing sustainable economic development figures. And we are glad to see Qatar among those countries who are successful in gradual economic recovery, which in its turn will enable our Qatari partners to succeed in implementation of Qatar National Vision 2030. "
He pointed out: " Thus, we can observe that despite the restrictions imposed by Covid-19 we have managed to advance our bilateral dialogue at various levels. We believe that deliberations held and recommendations elaborated at those events will serve to further strengthening of bilateral co-operation as well as lay down new perspectives for partnerships between Azerbaijan and Qatar in various fields."
The envoy added: "Over the year we have also carried out successful co-operation in the fields of culture, education, sports and research. Signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between Katara Cultural Village Foundation and Icherisheher State Historical-Architectural Administration in Azerbaijan was notable in terms of creating new horizons for co-operation in the cultural domain. In this context, we consider the recent visit of the First Deputy Minister of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Qatar, inauguration of Azerbaijan Corner in Katara and the event in Qatar National Library dedicated to the 880th anniversary of the great Azerbaijani poet and thinker Nizami Ganjavi, all accomplished in the span of this month as an indication denoting that our bilateral relations are enhancing also in the cultural sphere."
The ambassador said: "I would like to cordially congratulate the people of the State of Qatar on the occasion of the National Day and wish them all further development and welfare. We believe that with the wise leadership of His Highness the Amir, Qatar will continue pursuing its purposeful policy of sustainable development in all spheres."
On the World Cup, Ambassador Ismayilov said: "In less than a year Qatar will be hosting one of the most attractive mega sports events, 2022 FIFA World Cup. Despite all the obstacles emerged by the pandemic, the implementation of infrastructure development projects related to the World Football Championship continues in accordance with the previously planned schedule. Undoubtedly, relevant wide-scale preparation activities already performed and those currently underway in preparation for the World Cup are commendable. Considering all above-mentioned achievements along with good organisation of the Arab Cup we can currently observe in Doha, there is no doubt that Qatar will host the 2022 FIFA World Cup at the highest level."
