Demonstrating its commitment to the nation and its environment, Baladna, Qatar's largest locally owned food and dairy producer, marked its celebration of Qatar National Day by pledging to plant 5,000 trees, in line with the 2021 “Sustainability” theme and in support of the government’s efforts to reduce air pollutants and carbon dioxide emissions.
Baladna’s pledge was made during an official announcement at a private ceremony that took place at Baladna headquarters in Al Khor, in the presence of Khaled Ahmed al-Sindi, head of Projects Department, Ministry of Municipality; Abdullah Ibrahim al-Mohannadi, head of the Parks Department, Al Khor and Al Thakhira Municipality; Khaled al-Nuaimi, director of Al Khor Park, and Piet Hilarides, Baladna CEO.
The company’s commitment to plant 5,000 trees comes in further support of the nationwide campaign launched by the Ministry of Municipality to plant one million trees, with the aim to preserve the environment being one of the key pillars for the Qatar National Vision 2030 and reinforce green growth across the nation.
The initiative also stems from Baladna’s belief in giving back to the communities in which it operates, and stems from its role as a key contributor to the sustainable development and self-sufficiency goals in Qatar. It also supports the nation’s commitment to implement the Middle East Green initiative, “Desert Greening” that was announced recently and aims to defy the environmental challenges by advocating the importance of preserving the environment, and the important role of planting trees as a bottom line to the initiative, leading to a better quality of life eventually.
