Qatar University (QU) on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Iberdrola Innovation Middle East to establish applied research and development co-operation in the field of sustainable energy.
The MoU was signed by QU vice president for Academic Affairs Dr Omar al-Ansari and Iberdrola Innovation Middle East managing director Santiago Banales Lopez.
The aim is to undertake joint scientific, academic and research initiatives including student training and co-funding of graduate MSc and PhD research students.
Dr al-Ansari said the MoU highlights QU-College of Engineeing's continuous efforts to provide solutions to local challenges, in line with national priorities towards a knowledge-based economy, which will contribute to driving socio-economic development and sustainability in Qatar.
The Iberdola official described the landmark agreement is a follow-up of "our continuous cooperation with Qatar’s research, development and innovation ecosystem to solve global challenges of the energy industry while supporting local students and scientists and contributing to Qatar National Vision 2030”.
With over 170 years of history, Iberdrola is a global energy leader, the number one producer of wind power, and one of the world's biggest electricity utilities in terms of market capitalisation.
