Costa Rican ambassador in Doha Alvaro Mariano Segura Avila has praised Qatar's global position, explaining that the country's economic, social and political model is an example for the nations of the region and for the whole world. He said in statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA) that "the achievements made in the country in terms of economic and financial stability, political stability and the way in which its authorities have been able to channel the benefits to the entire population, constitute a model to be imitated. Both the local population and those residing in the country should be proud of living in an environment of peace and prosperity, in which the well-being of the country constitutes the livelihood of a large number of immigrant families who find their daily sustenance in this beautiful country. In this sense, the vision of the authorities to define the present and the future of the nation has been a great success."
The ambassador added: "The openness of Costa Rica and Qatar to establish trade relations and strengthen their diplomatic relations has been the key to scheduling a series of co-operation and investment projects in the coming years. The recent visit of the Vice President of Costa Rica to Qatar strengthened relations between both countries and marked a milestone for both countries to become more committed in the search for a common welfare agenda for both nations."
He pointed out that "the pandemic imposed a series of economic restrictions that affected global economic performance, mainly in terms of trade flows, tourism and unemployment. However, the authorities' vision and planning for the crisis allowed them to face the pandemic with great success and recover from it in a very short time. In this sense, the importance of the country as a world supplier of natural gas and oil, provided a very important tool for the dynamism and economic recovery to manifest promptly."
The ambassador said: "The infrastructure and internal organisational capacity in Qatar constitute a very valuable asset to face these types of challenges. I have no doubts that the preparation for these events has been adequate and that the country is ready to successfully carry out both sporting events. As happened a few days ago with the celebration of the Formula One Grand Prix, the celebration of the Arab Cup and the 2022 World Cup will be a resounding success."
He congratulated His Highness the Amir, the government and people of Qatar on the occasion of the National Day, wishing Qatar further progress and prosperity under the wise leadership of Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, stressing that such national occasions reinforce the values of loyalty and belonging, and unite the people behind his leadership.
