HE the Chairman of Qatar Chamber (QC) Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim bin Mohamed al-Thani said that Qatar National Day is a precious occasion in which the meanings of solidarity and co-operation are evident, as well as loyalty to parents and grandparents, highlighting their achievements for the sake of the nation's elevation and development, and in which Qatar renews the pledge to give and achieve more prosperity.
In a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA) on the occasion of Qatar National Day, he expressed on his and QC's Board of Directors and the private sectors' behalf warmest congratulations to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and His Highness the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani on an occasion dear to everyone's hearts.
He affirmed that the private sector is proud of the great support given by the wise leadership as a real partner in the development process the country is witnessing. He added that the private sector pledges to the Amir that it will do what it can to achieve the goals sought by the State, whether at the level of Qatar National Vision 2030 or beyond.
He noted that this year's National Day celebration is distinctive because it coincides with Qatar's hosting of the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2021, as well as the countdown to hosting the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, the global event that is anticipated by all countries of the world, which will turn their eyes to Qatar to follow up on the best hosting of the international championship.
He also pointed out that Qatar completed projects related to the FIFA World Cup a year before its launch, despite the repercussions of the global pandemic crisis, and considered it a great success that will enhance the strength and competitiveness of Qatar's economy, increase the confidence of the countries of the world in their national economy, and attract more global investments to it.
He referred to what QC had accomplished in 2021, stressing that the Chamber is working tirelessly for the development and growth of the private sector, and has made efforts during the current year to enhance the role of the sector in the development process witnessed by the State. The Qatari economy witnessed a recovery in 2021 from the negative effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, in light of the easing of restrictions imposed on business activities and freedom of movement since mid-2021, he noted.
He said that during 2021, QC continued its efforts to support and develop the business sector in the country and to encourage investment and facilitate its growth.
It has also accompanied the achievements of the State and succeeded in proving its role as a representative of the Qatari private sector, and its goal is to work to support, promote, develop and protect the interests of companies and institutions as the voice of the business community in the country. QC continued to provide its services to the Qatari business community during the Covid-19 pandemic and participated in the governmental efforts made by the State to limit its spread and contributed to helping the private sector play its role during the crisis, he said.
In this context, he pointed out that QC completed more than 47,000 electronic transactions during 2021, and 1,636 new companies joined its membership, raising the total number of members to about 69,000 until the end of Nov 2021, and issued about 35,000 certificates of origin for exports. On the level of technical development and digitisation, he stated that QC strengthened its digital structure and worked to add further development to the services provided to the business community in order to facilitate its members and its affiliated companies and institutions, as well as provided all possible means to communicate with them, and complete their transactions with ease and professionalism.
He said that QC launched more electronic services on its website, such as listing companies in the Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry directory, creating a profile for each company, and creating a digital business platform for companies wishing to identify Qatari companies as well as Qatari companies wishing to establish businesses outside Qatar. He also mentioned that QC implemented many initiatives to stimulate the private sector and encourage it to effectively confront the global crisis in line with the measures taken by the State.
He also pointed out that QC strengthened co-operation and communication with all concerned authorities in the country to discuss all matters related to the Qatari private sector and the obstacles it faces, in order to ensure that it plays its role in the national economy and ensures the continuity of business and projects. He referred to the International Road Transport Union announcement this year regarding the activation of the TIR Agreement for Transit in Qatar, adding that QC is the national guarantor and exporter of its implementation in Qatar, which is an important step in strengthening the position of Qatar as a strategic trading partner and creating more effective commercial transport and transportation corridors in the GCC region and globally.
