The Shura Council held Monday its weekly meeting, under the chairmanship of its Speaker HE Hassan bin Abdullah al-Ghanim.
At the outset of the session, HE Secretary-General of the Shura Council Dr Ahmed bin Nasser al-Fadhala read the meeting's agenda. The last meeting's minutes were also ratified.
On the occasion of Qatar's celebration of the National Day, which falls on Dec 18, the Council extended its congratulations to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, His Highness the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, His Highness the Deputy Amir Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad al-Thani and the honourable people of Qatar.



On this glorious occasion, the Council renewed the pledge and loyalty to His Highness the Amir, stressing its commitment to continue working hard for all that is in the interest of the country, preserving the country's gains, and sincerely striving to meet the aspirations of citizens. HE the Speaker affirmed that the lofty principles and values established by the State's founder Sheikh Jassim bin Mohamed bin Thani will continue to guide the sons of the nation to further progress, development, and prosperity for our dear country and its loyal people.
HE al-Ghanim briefed the Council on the draft laws, social security and military retirement, and decided to refer it to the temporary joint committee of legal and legislative affairs and economic and the financial affairs, to study them and submit a report to the Council. In this context, the Council stressed the importance of the two aforementioned bills, as they are associated with a large segment of citizens, pointing to the need to study them comprehensively to take the appropriate decision.
HE the Speaker informed the members of the memorandum of the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers related to the Shura Council's approval of the draft general budget and its approval of the draft law approving the state's general budget for fiscal 2022.
While HE the Speaker briefed the Council on the memorandum of the General Secretariat of the Cabinet regarding the referral of recommendations, a request for general discussion on education that the Council submitted in a previous session to the Ministry of Education and Higher Education for study in co-ordination with Qatar University (QU). After extensive discussions regarding the referral of recommendations on education, the Council decided to refer them to the Information and Cultural Affairs Committee to study and submit a report on them to the Shura Council.
