* Gates discusses areas of co-operation with QFFD

Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft and co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, has commended Qatar’s efforts to support development projects globally, particularly through the Lives and Livelihoods Fund (LLF) created in 2016, Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) has said in a statement.
HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the Board of Directors of QFFD, Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani, met with Gates on Tuesday during the latter's visit to Doha to meet with Qatari officials and discuss further prospects of co-operation to help alleviate poverty globally and support communities most vulnerable to climate change.
Established by the Islamic Development Bank in co-ordination with five donor partners, including the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and QFFD, the LLF has allocated close to $1.5bn to fund projects that help the most vulnerable people in 30 of the poorest Muslim countries.
Gates also met with Khalifa al-Kuwari, director-general of QFFD, and discussed ways to enhance co-operation to urgently address severe challenges faced by communities most affected by climate change, particularly smallholders farmers across the African continent, including by providing the tools needed to adapt to changing weather patterns and build resilient food systems that can produce more and better nutrition for communities as well as greater economic stability, in co-operation with strategic partner Silatech, one of the implementers.
These discussions follow bilateral meetings held on the sidelines of COP26 in November, where Gates held talks with other Qatari officials on ways to strengthen co-operation. “I am pleased with the constructive conversations held in Doha with our partners,” said Gates. “I look forward to expanding our joint work with Qatar, particularly in providing communities with the tools and capabilities to address challenges like climate change that affect health and development.”
“I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to the effort done by our strategic partner, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and their efforts to make a change around the world. Also, I am pleased of this meeting with Mr Bill Gates, which resulted in bringing views closer together, which an aspect to strengthening this partnership to take effective action that will empower LDC’s communities and look for a new efficient solution for climate action in those countries and communities,” said al-Kuwari.
