HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Qatar Fund for Development Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani met on Tuesday with the visiting Co-Founder of Microsoft Corp and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Bill Gates.
During the meeting, they reviewed the partnership between Qatar and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, besides issues of common interest.
Qatar Fund for Development and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation signed a strategic partnership contract in September 2015 in New York City, with the aim of providing a common base on consensus in visions and goals to establish qualitative initiatives and projects in the development field and across priority sectors of the two institutions, specifically in the health and economic empowerment sectors.
The two parties activated the agreement through continuous co-operation and coordination in a number of areas, most notably the financing of a number of international multilateral organisations and platforms, such as the Gavi, The Vaccine Alliance, the Global Fund to Fight Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria, and the Global Fund for financing.
Qatar Fund for Development contributed to the Lives and Livelihoods Fund, which was established in partnership with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the Islamic Development Bank and some regional and international development and humanitarian funds.
The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has also worked, within the framework of co-operation, to build the capacities of Qatar Fund for Development and Qatari associations and institutions through numerous workshops and secondment programmes for specialised employees. (QNA)
