* Total recoveries increase to 241,340
More than 5mn Covid-19 vaccine doses have been administered in Qatar since the start of the National Covid-19 Vaccination Programme, according to data published by the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH).
Some 3,388 vaccine doses were given in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of doses administered so far to 5,007,988.
The ministry said 85.5% of the total population are now fully vaccinated with two doses, while 127,211 Covid-19 booster vaccine doses have been given to date.
Meanwhile, the MoPH on Saturday reported 159 new confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the country - 140 among the community and 19 among travellers, according to Qatar News Agency.
It also recorded 142 recoveries from the virus during the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries in Qatar to 241,340.
Anyone who had their second Covid-19 vaccine dose more than six months ago is eligible for the booster dose. The Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) is directly contacting eligible people to fix an appointment for their Covid-19 booster vaccine. “If you are eligible and have not yet been contacted, call the PHCC hotline on 4027 7077,” the ministry said recently.
The fourth phase of the gradual lifting of precautionary restrictions began on October 3 and is part of a four-stage plan to gradually lift the precautionary restrictions imposed in Qatar due to the Covid-19 pandemic. It is important during the current period that all members of society, including those who have received the vaccination, continue to wear masks as recommended and continue to adhere to social distancing, the MoPH said in a statement Saturday.
“With Covid-19 still a threat to our health here in Qatar, it is important for everyone to play their role in controlling the virus by following these precautionary measures: adherence to physical distancing; avoiding close contact with others, crowded places and confined closed spaces where people congregate; wearing a face mask; and washing hands regularly,” the statement advised. “People should take the Covid-19 vaccine at the earliest opportunity when their turn comes.”
