Qatar Museums has launched several events and activities throughout December at the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA), National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ), and Fire Station. The MIA will host a Square Kufic workshop on December 22 and 29, from 4pm to 6pm. The name comes from using black squares as a unit for measuring letters. Learn about the different designs of square kufic, including square, rectangle, circle, star, swirl etc.
Monoprint for Adults Workshop is on December 22, from 4pm to 7pm. Participants will create their own unique monoprint using different ink and layering techniques. More information is available through email at [email protected]
Planet Kids Online on December 28, from 3pm to 4.30pm is a monthly storytime, discussion and activity relating the museum to protecting the planet. Live demonstration: International Aviation Day -- NMoQ Baraha - December 7, 10am to 7pm - In celebration of International Civil Aviation Day, teams from Qatar Civil Aviation Authority and Qatar Aeronautical Academy will lead a live demonstration about aviation sciences, and the advanced mechanisms and technologies that are used in the fields of navigation, aviation safety and meteorology. Grandma’s Hazawi between the past and present -- Mohammed bin Jassim Al Khulaifi Library at NMoQ - December 11 and 25, 4pm to 5pm - Young readers between 5-9 will enjoy reading the story "Hazawi Grandmother", which aims to strengthen the national identity and connect the new generations with their heritage. Qatar Heritage and Sport at NMoQ - December 9 (Arabic), 4pm to 5pm, December 5 and 12 (English), 4pm to 5pm. In this guided tour, participants will learn about Qatar’s natural environment and cultural heritage and its relation to different types of sports. Fire Station: Artists in Residence - "Figures of Speech" workshop by current artists-in-residence Amna al-Muftah and Sarah Jayyousi: Screen Printing on Tote Bags - December 8 at Education Studio, Fire Station, 5.30pm to 8pm
Al-Muftah is a visual artist, drawing her inspiration from nature and the things she sees in her everyday life. In her practice, she makes pigments, dyes, and incorporates clay, fabric, and embroidery in her work. She holds a BFA in Painting and Printmaking from VCUarts Qatar, 2020.
Jayyousi is a visual artist who paints, prints, and photographs her surroundings based on their abstract view. She is drawn to hard edges, contrasting colours, and perspective. She has a BFA in Painting and Printmaking from VCUarts Qatar, 2020.

"Figures of Speech" workshop by fashion designer Noor al-Kuwari: The 4 Step Guide to a Collection - December 4, from 10.30am to 12pm, Education Studio, Fire Station.
Participants will learn about and experience the process of developing their collection. Al-Kuwari is the founder of NORKUI, a contemporary ready-to-wear label. She has a BFA in Fashion Design from VCUarts Qatar and is currently an artist-in-residence at the Fire Station.
