HE the Minister of Labour Dr Ali bin Smaikh al-Marri held a series of meetings with a number of officials from the International Labour Organisation, the International Organisation for Migration, and other officials, on the occasion of his current visit to Geneva to participate in the high-level meeting of the Council of the International Organization for Migration, which is being hosted in the Swiss capital.
HE the Minister of Labour met the Director-General of the International Labour Organisation Guy Ryder, and they discussed strengthening the existing co-operation between Qatar and the organisation.
In this regard, HE al-Marri affirmed the firm and permanent commitment of Qatar to move forward in co-operation with the International Labour Organisation, and continuous co-ordination with its office in Doha, and stressed that Qatar is proceeding with the approach of the reforms that it has initiated in recent years, which reflects a strong political will to proceed with the development of laws and the legislative system related to labour law and the protection of workers' rights, in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.
HE the Minister of Labour also met with the Director-General of the International Organisation for Migration Antonio Vitorino, who recently visited Doha, the Secretary-General of the International Organisation of Employers (IOE) Roberto Suarez Santos, the Deputy Director-General for Field Operations and Partnerships at the International Labour Organisation Mussa Omaro, and the Director of the International Labour Standards Department at International Labour Organisation Corinne Vargas.
During those meetings, the prospects for enhancing co-operation and joint co-ordination on labour and labour market issues were discussed.
