The Ministry of Education and Higher Education has launched the National Olympiad for Scientific Creativity "Ibdaa" in Mathematics, Science and Engineering in an effort to provide an educational system that lives up to the world's outstanding educational systems.
The competition, which is organised in co-operation with the College of Engineering at Qatar University (QU), Texas A&M University in Qatar, and the Qatar Scientific Club, aims to link science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics subjects to solve life problems in creative and professional ways, and build knowledge through effective exploration of everyday problems in the real world, develop ideas and theories to reach answers and solutions, engage in logical thinking to develop the ability to solve complex issues, research global issues to develop solutions to global challenges and problems, introduce and integrate artificial intelligence and technology into the educational process at all levels with the participation of all parties, and represent Qatar in international forums with outstanding projects.
The competition also encourages learning science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics in an integrated manner, which is known as STEAM, which helps improve the results of the outputs of the majors of these subjects, as this system is of interest to international organisations.
Director of Educational Guidance Department Moza al-Mudahka said in her speech at the launch meeting of the competition that the initiative comes from the ministry's efforts to provide a distinguished international educational system.
For her part, a mathematics guidance consultant at the Ministry's Educational Guidance Department Huda al-Ammari, said the competition will offer an educational environment that provides students with skills of understanding, application, problem analysis and judgment of things, creativity and innovation.
Al-Ammari noted that the competition targets three categories of students of all state schools. These are sixth graders in primary schools, and students of the middle and secondary levels.
The Olympiad is an effort to create a competitive and stimulating creative learning environment that will prepare students to enter the global system based on innovation, creativity and scientific research for the sustainable development goals (SDGs), including major projects in energy, robotics, smart devices and software systems.
