The joint international conference between the Languages, Media and Translation Sector at the College of Arts and Sciences at Qatar University (QU), the Arab Translators Union (Lebanon), and the Arab Organisation for Translation (Lebanon), under the title *Translation, Learning and its Developments, will be held between December 12-13 via the WebEx platform.
The conference's aim is to highlight the importance of translation education in light of the world's increasing openness and the near-free availability of technology to all users.
In the same way, one of the conference's key goals is to exchange practical experiences from educational institutions in the field of translation education.
The conference also allows participants to form scientific collaborations and collaborate on research in the subject of translation education.
Ahmed Haji Safar, assistant professor of linguistics in the QU Department of Arabic Language, and chairman of the Conferences Organising Committee, said: "With the growing openness of countries and cultures to one another, as well as the rise of urgent demands such as the sharing of emergency knowledge connected to pandemics or their treatment, and with significant technological advances, the usage of computing, across a variety of sectors of life, as well as the ensuing information and communication revolution, there is an urgent need to enhance the status of translation in universities, institutes and schools."
For his part, chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Arab Organisation for Translation and secretary of the Union of Arab Translators Professor Bassam Baraka, said: "This conference is an academic scientific initiative by the Union of Arab Translators, in collaboration with Qatar University's Languages, Media, and Translation Sector, in an effort to strengthen co-operation between them in order to elevate the status of translation in academic and scientific forums, as well as support initiatives related to translation, learning and teaching."
The conference called on researchers to submit original and unpublished scientific papers in all fields of translation, machine translation, translation learning, teaching and its applications.
The QU seeks to make this conference one of the most important and leading international conferences in the field of translation learning and related applications, by drawing the attention of academic planners and decision-makers to the importance of translation education to preserve identity and linguistic rights.
