At the invitation of Sheikh Nawaf bin Nasser al-Thani, board member of the Qatari Businessmen Association (QBA), the QBA has organised a private dinner in honour of Brazil’s president, Jair Bolsonaro, and his accompanying delegation.

Bolsonaro is in the country to discuss ways to enhance economic relations between Qatar and Brazil in various sectors. The private dinner was held in the presence of QBA chairman HE Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim al-Thani, Qatar Chamber chairman Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim al-Thani, Brazilian ambassador Luiz Alberto, and Qatar Financial Centre CEO Yousef al-Jaida.
Also present at the dinner are QBA board member Sheikh Hamad bin Faisal al-Thani, and QBA members Nasser al-Haider, Khaled al-Mannai, Nabil Abu Issa, Ashraf Abu Issa, Moataz al-Khayat, Dr Mohamed Althaf, Ihsan al-Khaymi, Sheikh Turki bin Faisal al-Thani, and QBA deputy general manager Sarah Abdallah. Qatar Chamber board members Mohamed Sultan al-Jaber and Mohamed al-Obaidly, along with Essam Nemr Abed also attended.
The Brazilian delegation was composed of Carlos Alberto Franco Franca, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Walter Braga Netto, Minister of Defence; Gilson Machado, Minister of Tourism; Augusto Heleno Ribeiro Pereira, Minister of the Institutional Security Cabinet of the Presidency of the Republic; Celio Faria Junior, Chief of Staff of the Presidency; Mario Frias, Special Secretary of Culture; and ambassador Kenneth Felix Haczynski da Nobrega, Vice-Minister for Middle East, Europe and Africa of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Sheikh Faisal welcomed the Brazilian president and his accompanying high-level delegation, expressing the interest of Qatari businessmen in co-operating and partnering with Brazilian businessmen “who have achieved global success and reputation.”
He praised the importance of the Brazilian market, which is rich in investment opportunities in different economic sectors and its pivotal role as one of the largest markets in South America.
Bolsonaro said, “I am sure that this visit will be fruitful in terms of developing investment relations between the two countries and encouraging businessmen from both sides to co-operate together.”
He said the delegation is fully prepared to provide support to any investor or businessman wishing to explore investment opportunities in Brazil. Bolsonaro lauded the economic prosperity that he witnessed in Qatar and its preparations for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, and invited Qatari businessmen to visit Brazil.
Al-Jaida presented an overview of the QFC and the services it provides to encourage foreign investors and the opportunities it has for local and international companies to support them in establishing their businesses and engage in a wide range of activities within a legal and regulatory framework that is in line with best international practices. He also discussed the attractive investment environment of Qatar.
In his welcome note, Sheikh Nawaf welcomed the Brazilian president and thanked him for accepting the invitation.
He said, “The Qatari Businessmen Association is pleased to receive the country that has won the most World Cups. The exchanging experiences between the two sides regarding the organisation of sports events is important, especially as we are close to hosting the World Cup next year.”
Sheikh Nawaf also spoke about the interest of Qatari businessmen to learn about the Brazilian market, pointing out that the Qatari private sector is always looking forward to exploring and searching for new opportunities.
At the end of the meeting, Sheikh Faisal, Sheikh Nawaf, and Sheikh Khalifa presented gifts to Bolsonaro, hoping that this visit would achieve its goals in developing economic relations.
