Mohamood Mattool, a Qatar-based Malayalam writer and columnist, won the best children’s book award for his new book Makky and Kukky.
The literary honour instituted by Haritham Books, in memory of the late pioneer of Malayalam children's literature K Thayatt, was announced by the award organising committee chairman Prathapan Thayatt at the 40th Sharjah International Book Festival.
Mattool, a socio-cultural activist and columnist, was the sub-editor of Gulf Views, Gulf Voice magazine. He has published fifteen books of novels and short stories as well as a number of articles.
Makky and Kukky is a collection of 28 folk tales replete with myths and legends about the nature of Arab traditions, culture and social diversity. The award is to be presented at a function in December 2021.
