Nine years after winning high jump bronze at the London Olympics, Qatar’s Mutaz Barshim’s medal has officially been upgraded to silver. The International Olympic Committee on Saturday approved reallocating some results from the London Games because of doping cases.
Russian Ivan Ukhov, who had won gold, was proven to have taken part in the Russian state-backed steroid doping programme. United States’ Erik Kynard, who had finished second behind Ukhov, will get the gold.
Barshim won gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics earlier this year. Qatar Olympic Committee president HE Sheikh Joaan Bin Hamad Bin Khalifa al-Thani congratulated Barshim in a tweet Saturday.
