The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has announced the commencement of works on the Roads and Infrastructure Project in West Al Meshaf, Package 9, which aims to develop internal streets in the area and improve traffic safety on them, as well as upgrade infrastructure facilities to respond to residents’ needs and urban growth in the future.

The project is located to the west of Al Meshaf, east of Mesaieed Road, north of Al Wukair Road and is bordered by Sheikh Saud Bin Abdelrahman Street to the north and Al Wakra New Road to the east. The upgrade works will be implemented in three geographical zones, which will be carried out successively, and the duration of all phases will be three years. Full completion of the project is scheduled for Q3, 2024, Ashghal has said in a statement
Ahmed al-Obaidly, head of the Southern Area Section of the Roads Projects Department at Ashghal, said upon its completion, the project will serve 1,144 residential plots in the West Al Meshaf area through the provision of upgraded infrastructure service,s including drainage networks, enhanced local streets and dedicated cycle and pedestrian paths to improve traffic flow and provide connectivity to public amenities in the area.
 

Fatema Salat

For her part, Fatema Salat, project manager in the Roads Projects Department, explained: “The project works involve developing a road network with a total length of 39km equipped with road safety features and street lighting as well as road signs and marks. The project also features a 7km shared pedestrian and cycle track.”
Further, the project scope includes a 51km-long surface and groundwater drainage network, a 1km-long foul sewer network, and 2km of a treated sewerage effluent (TSE) network.
The Roads and Infrastructure in West Al Meshaf Project, Package 9 is being implemented by Al Darwish Engineering at a cost of QR558.4mn and is part of the New Subdivisions Programme, which is being carried out by the Public Works Authority and includes a number of development projects across Qatar.
