Qatar University (QU) and the Ministry of Defence Sunday signed a MoU that includes cooperation, coordination and participation between the two parties in their relevant fields and expertise. The MoU aims to provide necessary support for the initiatives and projects of the Qatar Armed Forces, including benefiting from the University’s educational programs and technical strategic research, such as in electrical engineering, communications, computer science and its many branches, information and security systems and remote sensing, provided by QU, its colleges and its research centers.





The agreement was signed by Dr. Omar Al-Ansari, Vice President for Academic Affairs, on behalf of QU and Brigadier Eng. Abdulaziz Falah Al-Dosari, representing the Ministry of Defence. The MoU provides area for cooperation in education, innovation, technological and engineering development and technical strategic studies, in accordance with the requirements of the Qatar Armed Forces.
This includes:
    * Sharing professional expertise, scientists and researchers in electrical engineering, communications and computers, computer science, innovation, information systems and security, and strategic studies.
    * Providing research resources and access to scientific journals available at QU to researchers from the armed forces.
    * Conducting conferences, seminars and joint specialized workshops.
    Encouraging students to volunteer in the activities of the Qatar Armed Forces in Qatar.

The signing of the MoU comes as part of the Qatar Armed Forces efforts to establish cooperation between a number of sectors in various fields, in the area of innovation and technological development.

In his speech on the occasion, Dr. Omar Al-Ansari spoke about the importance of the signing of the agreement for the two parties, as QU strives to offer its expertise to national organizations, noting that the field of cybersecurity and modern technologies has become a fertile area. Dr. Omar Al-Ansari also said the university was proud of the confidence shown towards it by the armed forces for research and technical cooperation.

For his part, Brigadier Eng. Abdulaziz Falah Al-Dosari said, “The tremendous development of the armed forces under the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, is comprised of several things. This includes keeping pace with the development of modern technologies, the use of systems enhanced by artificial intelligence technologies, cognitive systems, automation, immediate perception systems of variables and rapid decision-making under pressure and a huge flow of information and data enhanced to build and strengthen the capabilities and strategies of the armed forces at the strategic, tactical and operational levels. In addition to attention to the human cadre, which is the basis of the development plan."

He adds, “The university's potential and its researchers, research centers and scientific and research mechanisms promote innovation and development and we are confident of our shared ability to contribute effectively to finding innovative solutions to promote sustainability and innovation in the digital military industry.”

Dr. Khalid Kamal Naji, Dean of the College of Engineering at QU also spoke at this signing, praising the importance of this agreement between the University and the Qatar Armed Forces and discussing future prospects and possible areas of cooperation between the two institutions.
