Ooredoo has announced its role as Strategic Sponsor of the ninth edition of the 2021 Ajyal Film Festival, as well as an Official Sponsor of the ‘Made In Qatar’ programme at the festival.
Ajyal Film Festival, Doha Film Institute’s annual signature event, is a celebration of cinema for people across generations. Over the past eight years, Ajyal has inspired audiences to be entertained by film, but also to better understand its powerful potential as a tool for
positive social change. This year’s festival will take place from Sunday until November 13.
Screenings and events at the festival provoke creative interaction, stimulate cinematic dialogue and inspire communities to take active interest in the film industry, and showcase emerging talent and important voices from Qatar and beyond.
The ‘Made In Qatar’ programme, presented by Ooredoo, is a selection of documentaries, short form narratives and animations that highlight emerging and established talents who call Qatar home by showcasing their work on the local, regional and international
stage.
Continuing to keep the health and safety of the audiences as a top priority, the 2021 event will be held in a hybrid format of both in-person and online activations. This year’s festival theme, 'Press Play', encourages all to move forward out of pause mode and rekindle the passion for play, exploration and discovery through shared cultural experiences
Speaking on the sponsorship, Sabah Rabiah al-Kuwari, director of PR at Ooredoo, said: “Our corporate social responsibility strategy includes a firm focus on supporting our local community, and on promoting arts and culture initiatives within the community. Sponsorship of this event is the ideal opportunity for us to demonstrate these commitments, and further, enables us to help shine the spotlight on Qatar as a hub of arts and culture within the region. We’re delighted to support Ajyal Film Festival again, and look forward to seeing what’s on offer at this year’s event.”
On Ooredoo’s continued support for the Ajyal Film Festival, Fatma al-Ghanim, director of Marketing and Communications at Doha Film Institute, said: “Ajyal 2021 reflects our deepened understanding of the world and our greater appreciation, now more than ever, of the importance of communities coming together for creative expression and exchange. Over the past eight years, Ajyal has had a distinctive impact on the progress of our country – and of our homegrown film industry. A source of national pride, the festival unites people across borders and shines a spotlight on new cinematic voices. We are thankful to the team at Ooredoo for sharing in our mission and being an important part of our journey to empower local talent and amplify their voices.”
