Qatar University (QU) highlighted on Tuesday its role in encouraging female students to engage in the business world and enhance their role in economic and social activity in the country during the Women's Entrepreneurship Day event organised by the Center for Entrepreneurship (CFE) at the College of Business and Economics, in co-operation with the Qatari Businesswomen Association.
The event was organised within the context of the global celebration of Women Entrepreneurship Week, which aims to nurture, inspire and revitalise women's organisations around the world, and enhance the roles of women at the development level.
Acting Dean of the College of Business and Economics at QU Dr Adam Fadlalla said that this event reflects the interest of educational institutions and the business community in the importance of the role of women in economic and social activity, and highlights the efforts of Qatar to strengthen the role of women in economic activity, in line with the UN's 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
Dr Fadlalla stressed that women play a major role in achieving sustainable development goals through their participation and pointed out that entrepreneurship is one of the basic tools for strengthening women's economic and social role.
For her part, Vice-Chairwoman of the Qatari Businesswomen Association Aisha Alfardan stressed the importance of the role that Qatari women play in the field of business and the advancement of their families, and thus their community.
AlFardan said that the Qatari Businesswomen's Association is keen to work with QU to enhance the role of women and encourage their participation in the country's economic development. She invited students to work on developing their ideas and transforming them into tangible projects, and to have the experience of entering the world of entrepreneurship and practicing various commercial activities.
In turn, Associate Vice-President for Academic Planning and Quality Assurance Dr Muna al-Marzouqi referred to the success of Qatari women in the field of business and innovation, as well as their effective contribution in achieving Qatar National Vision 2030 through their interest in learning entrepreneurship and starting new projects.
The Center for Entrepreneurship (CFE) at Qatar University was established in Sept 2013 at the College of Business and Economics with the aim of supporting entrepreneurship in the university and society as a whole, by providing training, business incubator and research services for students and graduates. It also extends its services to the private sector, commercial complexes, associations and government agencies.
