Officials of Qatari Businessmen Association (QBA) and the Korean Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) held a meeting to discuss ways to forge stronger collaboration and partnerships.
QBA hosted KCCI executive vice chairman Woo Tae-hee and his accompanying delegation representing top South Korean firms, such as Samsung Heavy Industries, Hyundai Engineering and Construction, Bioneer Corporation, and Samjin Precision Co Limited.
QBA Chairman HE Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim al-Thani was present at the meeting together with QBA first deputy chairman Hussein Alfardan and QBA board member Sherida al-Kaabi, as well as QBA members Sheikh Faisal bin Fahd al-Thani, Khalid al-Mannai, Ihsan al-Khiyami, and QBA deputy general manager Sarah Abdallah.
The visit of the South Korean delegation aims at studying the needs of the Qatari market, discussing opportunities for partnership and co-operation, and identifying value-added services that South Korean companies are offering.
Sheikh Faisal stressed during the meeting the need for Qatari and South Korean sides to co-operate, “especially now when everyone, such as the private sector, is eager to re-activate the production and innovation cycle.”
He also emphasised the importance of exploring opportunities for co-operation and partnership and highlighted the interest of Qatari businessmen to study investment opportunities in the South Korean market and discover ways where Qatar could benefit from South Korea’s technology and innovation.
Woo extended his gratitude to HE Sheikh Faisal and QBA members, pointing out the interest of South Korean companies in the Qatari market. He said this is the second visit of KCCI to Qatar.
He also lauded the development in Qatar since KCCI’s first visit in 2015. He said Qatar-South Korea bilateral co-operation “need to expand” and include various sectors to achieve mutual benefit.
QBA and KCCI also agreed to form a small working group composed of members from both organisations that would follow up and study projects and potential partnership opportunities.
During the meeting, members of the South Korean delegation introduced their respective companies: Samsung Heavy Industries was established in 1974 and is a leading company in the field of shipbuilding and gas tankers. The company has developed and built the world's first Arctic shuttle tanker and LNG FPSOs and has pioneered new markets by developing innovative products, such as the various ships for polar regions, Arctic ice-breakers and container ships.
Hyundai Engineering and Construction, the first South Korean construction company to invest abroad was established in 1974 and operates in more than 62 countries with more than 850 international projects, and has been present in the Qatari market for 40 years.

Samjin Precision Co Limited is a leading manufacturer of high-quality valves in South Korea. Alfardan, for his part, said he supports the Qatari private sector in exploring investment and co-operation opportunities not only in the local market but also regionally and globally.
He said Qatar is capable to be an ideal gateway to the global market, stressing the readiness of the private sector and Qatari businessmen to partner with their counterparts in South Korea and lead successful engagements.
HE Sheikh Faisal also lauded the idea of creating a QBA-KCCI working group that would study multiple investment opportunities, pointing out the importance of the continuation of discussions between the two sides after the meeting.
