The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has announced the commencement of development works on the Roads and Infrastructure Project in North East of Al Kheesa (Rawdat Al Hamama) - Package 2, which is part of Ashghal’s plan to implement full infrastructure projects by providing an upgraded roads network and integrated utility services for citizens’ subdivisions around the country.
The project is located in Rawdat Al Hamama, specifically towards the northeast of Al Kheesa, east of Wadi Al Wasaa district and Al Shamal Road, and west of Lusail City, to deliver a network of internal roads and a fully integrated infrastructure to respond to residents’ needs and urban growth in the future as well as provide connectivity to the area, Ashghal has said in a statement.
The upgrade works are divided into four geographical zones and will be carried out successively to lessen any inconvenience caused by the construction work to residents of the area. Full completion of the project is scheduled for Q2, 2026.
Hamad al-Badr, project engineer in the Northern Area Section of the Roads Projects Department at Ashghal, said the project serves 2,047 citizens’ subdivisions in Rawdat Al Hamama and aims to provide, upon completion, a 51km-long network of internal streets in the area to regulate traffic flow and enhance safety on the roads, in addition to providing connectivity to public amenities, providing road safety features and 2,060 street lighting poles as well as road signs and marks.
The project will also provide 106km of pedestrian and cycling paths as well as 7,009 car parking slots.
Al-Badr added that the project will also provide upgraded infrastructure services, including a 75km-long foul sewer network, 51km of surface and groundwater drainage network, 37km of treated sewage effluent (TSE) network as well as potable water lines that will be connected to the main network.
Construction works will also include a stormwater storage area (lagoon) with a total capacity of 150,000 cubic metres and three attenuation tanks to provide proper protection for the area and ensure the reuse of excess rainfall in irrigation.
Local materials and manufacturers will be relied upon in the implementation of the project work, as materials and elements such as gabbro, lights and lighting poles, road signs, sewage and rainwater drainage pipes, asphalt and prefabricated manholes as well as concrete and rebar will be supplied from local Qatari factories.
The local supply of materials is targeted at 85% of the project's work, as part of Ashghal's support for local manufacturers and a rehabilitation initiative launched by the authority in 2017.
Package 2 of the Roads and Infrastructure in North East of Al Kheesa (Rawdat Al Hamama) Project is being implemented by CRCC Construction Company at a cost of approximately QR898mn and is part of the New Subdivisions Programme, carried out by the Public Works Authority and includes several development projects across Qatar.
