The Ministry of Municipality, represented by a work team of the fisheries department, released around 26,000 baby Hamours of 40gm each into the sea at the Al Wakra area. The work team of the fisheries department has been tasked with supervising the implementation of the farmed fish release. Ibrahim Salman al-Mohannadi, head of the water research centre at the fisheries department, explained that the process of releasing fingerlings into the sea has been going on for more than a year, and is expected to create a considerable increase in fish stock in the country.
From last year until now around 1.260mn baby fish have been produced by the centre and released into the sea, he said. These include 701,000 black seabream baby fish and 559,000 baby Hamours.
