The decision of the National Day celebrations organising committee to hold multiple activities across the country with special focus on the local environment is expected to enhance domestic tourism and the resultant business opportunities.
As Darb Al Saai will not be held this year due to various logistic reasons, the committee has decided to spread out the National Day celebrations to various key locations in an initiative that would encourage people to explore different sites, especially those with historical, heritage and environmental significance.
According to local Arabic daily Arrayah the decision has been was lauded by many Qataris citizens who urged the entities concerned to use the opportunity to popularise various destinations and ensure there is no crowding anywhere.
Ahmed al-Yafei said the decision will make it possible for the northern areas of the country to host a good number of events. He described it as an excellent way to cope with the current circumstances and respond to the demands of the inhabitants of these areas for more public activities. He also suggested that more focus should be given to hosting diverse activities at the public parks and heritage sites.
Saleh al-Kuwari expected that the move would further enhance domestic tourism. He was of the view that a variety of folkloric and heritage events be held at public parks, and youth centres, especially since the weather is turning cool.
Ayid al-Shemmari suggested that the winter camping season at the Sealine and Khor Al Udaid Areas would provided good opportunities to launch various environmental activities and initiatives while promoting domestic tourism.
He noted that avoiding the idea of one centralised place for the festivities of the National Day would save the public any possible traffic congestions and crowding.
Ghanim al-Kuwari urged the organising committee to give special focus on the traditional and heritage markets (souqs) and other similar places, which would attract more visitors.
