The seventh passenger flight took off from Afghanistan's Kabul International Airport for Hamad International Airport in Qatar Monday, HE the Assistant Foreign Minister and Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Lolwah bint Rashid AlKhater said.
The Qatar Airways flight carried more than 300 passengers.
"The 7th passenger flight took off from Kabul International Airport, coming to Hamad International Airport. More than 300 passengers, including Afghan citizens, Afghan MPs, UN affiliates, journalists as well as citizens from Australia, Japan Flag, the United States, France and the United Kingdom," HE AlKhater tweeted.
In response, Australian ambassador to Qatar Jonathan Muir thanked Qatar for assisting Australians. "A big thanks to Qatar for assisting 34 Australians and their dependants depart Kabul on today’s flight," he tweeted, noting that efforts of HE AlKhater, Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Qatar Airways are "greatly appreciated".
Last week, Afghanistan’s men’s national cricket team were among the more than 300 passengers who were brought to Doha on the sixth passenger flight out of Kabul since August. Before that, the fifth passenger flight had flown from Kabul to Doha carrying more than 230 passengers, mostly Afghans.
The Afghan cricket team travelled to Qatar at the request of the interim government in Afghanistan so that they could take part in a training camp ahead of an “upcoming championship”. The team is due this month to take part in the Twenty20 World Cup in the UAE.
