The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has opened a new road connecting Qatar University (QU) Metro Station and university entrances to Al Tarfa Intersection (known as Golf Intersection). The opening, according to Ashghal’s tweet, comes as part of it's efforts to strengthen the interconnection between the road network and the rail network as well as enhancing traffic flow around the QU campus.
Completed works included the provision of street lighting systems, road marking and signs as well as stormwater and irrigation lines. In order to encourage a healthy lifestyle, a 2.5-km shared pedestrian and cycle path along with 151 trees and a 7,000 sqm of green areas were provided.

Ashghal currently focuses on developing infrastructure that enhances sport culture by implementing a connected and safe network of cycling paths in a bid to change the lifestyle of people through using healthy mobility means and exercise. Ashghal is now working to set up a network of cycling and pedestrian paths of about 2,650km by the year 2022.
In December 2019, Ashghal completed stage one of construction works on the new 1.2km road and the opening of it's carriageway to traffic.
