The Gulf Marine Center in Qatar Department of Meteorology on Sunday said  the governorates of Muscat and South Al Batinah in Sultanate of Oman are now being affected by tropical cyclone (Shaheen) with heavy rain (50-110 mm).
The storm in the north and longitude 59.3 degrees east continues its movement towards the coasts of the governorates of South and North Al Batinah, the Met Department said in a tweet. The tropical cyclone's center is about 80 km from the Governorate of Muscat, and the wind speed is estimated around the center 65-75 Kt.
It is likely that the governorates of Muscat and South Al Batinah will continue to be affected by very heavy rain accompanied by strong winds during this day, while the direct impact will begin during the next few hours on the governorates of North Al Batinah, Al Dhahirah, Al Buraimi and Al Dakhiliyah with high speed winds of 45-60 KT and very heavy rain 200-500 mm which can be thunderstorms that lead to flooding of the valleys. The governorates of Musandam, North and South Al Sharqiyah may be affected by rain of varying intensity from 20-60 mm, and it is likely that the center of the tropical situation will cross between the states of Musanah and Saham this evening between five and eight in the evening.
