As a part of the Ministry of Public Health's celebrations of the Oral and Dental Health Awareness Month this September, the Primary Health Care Corp (PHCC) organised a series of health and educational events aimed at spreading awareness of oral and dental health among all segments of society, including school students, in view of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Head of Preventive Oral and Dental Health at PHCC Dr Najat al-Yafei stressed the need to take good care of oral and dental health, as the mouth is the first gateway to many diseases: it is a place where microbes (viruses and bacteria) gather.
Therefore, practising good oral and dental hygiene prevents various diseases, especially other physical diseases connected to gingivitis, she added.
She noted the necessity of concerted efforts by all to maintain oral and dental health, praising the co-operation between the PHCC and the Ministry of Public Health and the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in this regard.
Among the awareness activities and events organised by the PHCC, was a lecture entitled "Don't Make Your Mouth a Gateway to Diseases", and another one entitled "Bad Oral Habits and Their Effects on the Teeth and Jaws" by Dr Amal al-Wadia, Dentist at Al Waab Health Centre, Dr al-Yafei said.
