Linto Thomas, who hails from the Indian state of Kerala, has been awarded an honorary Indian Community Benevolent Forum (ICBF) membership in recognition of his humanitarian activities.
Thomas, who came to Qatar in search of a livelihood 13 years ago, offers free rides to job seekers and other needy people as he himself was once among the unemployed many years ago and remembers his struggle to get to interviews when he did not have enough money for a taxi fare, a press statement noted.
Thomas credits his mother and says she has been inspiration to him in his benevolent activities and outlook.
His benevolence came to the fore after his post offering free rides appeared on Qatar Malayalees, a Facebook page, while Gulf Times published a report on him on September 18.
The honorary membership certificate and memento were handed over by Ziad Usman, president, ICBF, to Thomas. The function, held at the ICBF office in Al Thumama, was attended by the management committee members along with members of the associated organisations of ICBF.
During his acceptance speech, Thomas shared some heartwarming memories of his childhood as well as his experiences in Qatar.
Usman said, “The aim of ICBF is to recognise and encourage individuals who devote their time and energy to help those in need among the Indian community in Qatar.”
