The Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME), represented by the Agricultural Affairs Department, recently organised a field orientation day for farm owners on the optimum use of date drying rooms. The initiative was organised in co-operation with the Agricultural Research Department at the research farm in Rawdat Al Faras.
The event aimed to educate and guide farm owners, as well as raise awareness, on how to use the date drying rooms. It came within the framework of completing its support programme for farms with date drying rooms. The programme supports 100 farms producing and marketing dates. Owners, engineers and experts representing 17 farms participated in the field programme while adhering to precautionary health measures and distancing norms.
During the programme, the best ways to use drying rooms in the post-harvest period of dates were reviewed, while also highlighting measures to solve the challenges faced in the production of dates, especially in the stage of manual drying, the MME said in a statement.
The support programme provided by the Agricultural Affairs Department, through the distribution of drying rooms, aims to enhance production and quality and stop waste.
