IN-Q Enterprises WLL, the commercial arm of Qatar Museums, announced today the exhibition of the new electric vehicle, the New (500)RED in IN-Q stores. The (500)RED was unveiled yesterday at Qatar’s Culture Pass Club, Qatar’s first members-only arts club located in Msheireb Downtown Doha — the heart of Doha’s design district and home of M7, Qatar’s new creative hub for innovation, fashion, and design. The initiative is the latest demonstration of Qatar Museums and its Chairperson HE Sheikha Al-Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani's commitment to sustainability, protecting the environment and public health for all.
The New (500)RED is the first (RED) car in the world, launched yesterday in Turin, Italy and created to protect the planet and its people, is displayed in Doha. The Turin unveiling coincided with the global announcement of a new partnership between Fiat, JEEP ®, RAM and (RED), with a minimum commitment of $4 million to support the work of the Global Fund.
(RED) – founded by Bono and Bobby Shriver – has generated nearly $700M to date through partnerships with companies including Apple, Amazon, Beats by Dre, Louis Vuitton, NetJets and Starbucks.
Doha is among the first locations in the world where the public can see the new electric automobile, which is on view to the public in the Culture Pass Club’s Garden Oasis of from 9.00AM – 7.00PM, Sunday through Thursday. In addition, vehicles are available for order at IN-Q gift shops in Doha. QM’s Culture Pass members will have the opportunity to purchase the New (500)RED for delivery in Europe. Her Excellency Sheikha Al Mayassa stated: “It is incredibly meaningful that Culture Pass Club in Doha is one of the first places in the world where people can see the New (500)RED and be inspired by the innovation, design and public spirit that led to its creation. These are the same principles that guide us in all that we do at Qatar Museums, along with environmental stewardship, education, public health and sustainability. It is vital that Qatar be at the forefront of these issues not only in the region, but globally as well.”
In addition to today’s event, recent initiatives highlighting Her Excellency Sheikha Al Mayassa and Qatar Museum’s commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability include serving as the main partner of the 2021 Ro Plastic Prize that was presented during Milan Design Week in September 2021. Part of RoGUILTLESSPLASTIC, the international initiative founded and curated by Milanese designer Rossana Orlandi, the prize aims to unite the design community to use plastic waste to develop the future of design: plastic re-using, recycling, and upcycling. Her Excellency Sheikha Al Mayassa served as honorary president of the Prize’s international jury. The theme of this year’s prize is “Save the waste, waste is value,” and awards were given in three categories: urban and public furniture design, responsible innovation projects, and emotion on communication. Winners of each category received 10,000 euros to develop and refine their projects and they each will be exhibited in Qatar as part of Qatar Museum’s expanding commitment to sustainable programming.
A commitment to sustainability and environmental education is integral to the work of Qatar Museums. Permanent exhibitions at the National Museum of Qatar offer dramatic and immersive introductions to the natural history of the Qatar peninsula and the ways in which culture, heritage and society have been shaped by human interaction with the natural world. The special exhibition Seagrass Tales, Dugong Trails, on view earlier this year, educated children and their families about the community of shy marine mammals that has lived off the coast of Qatar for more than 7,500 years and now is under threat of extinction. Dadu, Qatar’s children’s Children’s museum Museum of Qatar, now under development, is similarly committed to teaching about sustainability, with interactive displays designed to encourage children to become responsible stewards of the environment.
