The Cabinet has applauded the speech of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani at the opening session of the General Debate of the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, which was held in New York on Tuesday, and the clear insights and positions contained in the speech that were characterised by honesty, wisdom and foresightedness towards various regional and international issues, foremost of which is the Palestinian cause.
His Highness the Amir also highlighted the positive developments in Libya over the past year, the Yemeni crisis, the Syrian issue, the future of the peace process in Afghanistan, the issue of returning to the nuclear agreement with Iran, as well as addressing the Covid-19 pandemic, combating terrorism and addressing its causes, climate change and cybersecurity, the official Qatar News Agency (QNA) quoted from a statement issued by HE the Minister of Municipality and Environment and Acting Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Dr Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki al-Subaei.
HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz al-Thani chaired the Cabinet's regular meeting held at its seat at the Amiri Diwan on Wednesday.
QNA said the Cabinet also praised the Amir's assertion on the importance of resolving differences between countries through dialogue based on common interests and mutual respect, which was embodied in the Al-Ula Declaration issued by leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council last January.
The Cabinet affirmed the importance of the Amir's participation in the UN General Assembly this year, in light of the follow-up and appreciation of world leaders and peoples for the effective and successful Qatari action in the international arena to settle disputes by peaceful means, affirm the principle of collective security, and protect peoples from the dangers of wars and the repercussions of political crises, and the constructive efforts and contributions made by Qatar in this area, in addition to the humanitarian aid and assistance it has provided to many countries across the world, in particular the evacuations from Afghanistan and the provision of aid to the Afghan people.
It welcomed the announcement of the Amir on the inauguration of the United Nations House in Doha soon, after Doha has become a hub of international multilateral action in the region, and in light of the distinguished relationship between Qatar and the international organisation which has been characterised by close cooperation and the establishment of exemplary partnerships in various fields.
The Cabinet was briefed by HE the Minister of Public Health on the latest developments and efforts to contain the spread of Covid-19. The Cabinet affirmed the continuation of the procedures and precautionary measures that have been taken in order to combat this pandemic.
The Cabinet considered the topics listed on its agenda as follows:
1. The Cabinet approved taking the necessary measures to issue a draft law regulating healthcare services within the country, after it reviewed the recommendations of the Shura Council thereon.
2. The Cabinet approved a draft decision of the Minister of the Interior on specifying national address data for making judicial announcements and official notifications.
3- The Cabinet, through a presentation presented by HE the President of the Planning and Statistics Authority, was briefed on the progress made in the implementation of the strategic plans of government agencies for the second quarter (April-June), in which he shed light on the progress of programmes and projects at the overall level of ministries and at the level of each entity, and the most important outputs and progress made in implementing the projects of those plans, their objectives and the most prominent challenges.
HE the Prime Minister directed the ministries to work on implementing the appropriate solutions and treatments to meet these challenges, and to cooperate with the Planning and Statistics Authority regarding the follow-up of the implementation of projects. (QNA)
