In collaboration with the Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA), Huawei has concluded the fifth edition of its annual knowledge-exchange programme, ‘Seeds for the Future’, in Qatar.
A total of 34 students from Qatar University, Hamad Bin Khalifa University and Community College of Qatar have successfully completed the programme this year.
During the eight-day online programme, participants were involved in various technology, leadership and cultural exchange courses. Those in attendance at the closing ceremony included Yang Song, Economic and Commercial counsellor at the Chinese embassy in Qatar; Mohamed al-Suwaidi, third secretary at the Qatari embassy in China, and SpaceLee, vice-president of Huawei Middle East.
Song said, “Since entering the Qatar market, Huawei has been committed to providing high-quality products and services to local citizens and organisations, while actively undertaking social responsibilities. The 'Seeds for the Future' programme is one such contribution to Qatar's economic transformation. I believe the students here will not only contribute to the development of Qatar’s digital economy, but also the mutual understanding and friendship between China and Qatar.”
Al-Suwaidi noted, “We are proud of all the students participating in this programme. Technology is changing rapidly, and we need these types of initiatives to further strengthen the partnership between Qatar and China in this important field. I wish this year’s participants all the best, and hopefully next year we can join together physically for this programme.”
This year, students in Qatar participated in the newly launched 'Tech4Good' project. Students came up with proposals on how to leverage technology to address the region’s most pressing social and environmental issues. It also encouraged students to increase their social entrepreneurship, problem-solving, and leadership skills through teamwork with other students from many different countries.
SpaceLee added, “The future of any nation lies in education. In the digitalised world, ICT education is key for social development. As a leader of the ICT industry, Huawei is honoured to uphold its social responsibilities to help Qatar prepare a robust talent ecosystem for the completion of Qatar National Vision 2030. In the next three years, we plan to nurture 10,000 ICT talents for Qatar.”
Even with the difficulties caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, Huawei has worked hard to provide as many opportunities as possible to students in an increasingly digitalised world, with this being the second year of the programme being organised online, according to a press statement.
