A cross section of young Qataris have stressed that the candidates for the upcoming Shura Council elections should give special focus to their demands and aspirations about growth and progress. Speaking to local Arabic daily Arrayah, they pointed out that the candidates, through their campaign programmes, ought to tackle some of the key issues such as more employment opportunities, increased involvement of the young in the decision making process, and helping them assume some leadership positions at various ministries and government departments.
There should be laws and regulations that support young investors, and provide necessary financial support for their Small and Medium Sizes Enterprises, especially at the startup phase.
The respondents told the daily that it is considered a national duty for every qualified Qatari citizen aged above 18 to actively take part in the Shura Council elections, a definitive moment in the history of the country, and would further establish such progressive practices for the upcoming generations.
Abdulrahman al-Darwish said that the members of the upcoming Shura council have to be familiar with the demands and needs of young people and maintain direct communication channels with them.
"Qatari young people are educated and enlightened and have gained many privileges from the state that enabled them to further expand their potential. The upcoming Shura Council members need to adopt more legislation to promote the tourism sector in the country, especially domestic tourism," he said.
Saleh al-Jassim said that the young people in the country enjoy various sport and scientific talents and need to develop them. "Accordingly, they want the Shura Council members to show support them in all the possible ways they could. Further, the young people want the members to promote laws and regulations that would help young investors and entrepreneurs," he suggested.
Abulaziz Ahen pointed out that many young Qataris are now highly educated and the new Shura Council members should adopt the cause of these people and help them assume various leading positions in the country, which will in turn help in development.
Khalid al-Abdulla expressed his hopes that more young people would be able to make their way to the council as the minimum age limit is 30 years. He stressed that such members would be more able to express and promote the dreams and hopes of the youth.
