The Al Shaqab Racing-owned two-year-old colt Migdam showed a nice turn of foot to take the Unibet/British Stallion Studs Restricted Novice Stakes at Kempton in England on Friday.
Trained by Michael Stoute, Migdam finished seventh on his debut at Nottingham three weeks ago and has progressed nicely to win on his second start under jockey Richard Kingscote.
Quickly out of the stalls, Migdam slotted in behind early leaders Park Street and Game Nation. Despite a relatively strong pace, Migdam travelled easily throughout the first half of the 1,600m contest and always looked well positioned. As the leaders began to fade at the top of the straight, Migdam was switched to the inside by Kingscote and challenged for the lead inside the final 300m. Despite showing some greenness, Migdam stayed on strongly to the line and went on to score by two and a quarter lengths from Pavlodor with Maplewood a further neck back in third.
“They have done plenty of stall work with him and that has made the difference today,” Kingscote told Racing TV. “He travelled strongly throughout the race and was able to quicken up easily. He will probably stay further and he is progressing nicely.”
Migdam was bred by Al Shaqab Racing and is from the first crop of Haras De Bouquetot’s Zelzal. His dam Asyad won three races and was placed third in the DFS Park Hill Stakes (Group 2) at Doncaster in 2015. She has produced dual listed winner Katara and she is also a half-sister to triple Group 3 winner Elle Shadow.
