The Qatar Racing Limited-owned colt Outbreak got off the mark with ease when taking the Byerley Stud Novice Stakes in Salisbury on Thursday.
Trained by Mark Johnston, the two-year-old Outbreak was on his second start, having placed second on his debut at Chelmsford two weeks earlier.
Outbreak broke smartly from the stall and was sent straight to the lead by Qatar Racing’s retained jockey Oisin Murphy. Taken across to the rail, Outbreak set a steady pace and was always a length up ahead the field through the first half of the 1,600m contest. Point Lynas tracked Outbreak throughout, but was pushed along 500m out. Outbreak stretched clear of the field inside the final 400m and won easily. Point Lynas finished five lengths back in second, while Wind Your Neck In finished one and a quarter lengths further in third.
Bred by Qatar Bloodstock and Newsells Park Stud, Outbreak is a son of Yeomanstown Stud’s Dark Angel. His dam Purr Along was a dual Group 3 winner and has now produced three winners. She is also a half-sister to black type performers Katawi and Lady Francesca.
