The new academic year (2021/2022) is expected to see the opening of 16 new private schools and kindergartens (KGs) that will provide 8,870 seats for students, a Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE) official has said.
Hamad Mohamed al-Ghali, director of the Private School Licensing Department at the MoEHE, said the new schools follow different curricula and offer a number of options to parents. Nine of these follow the British curriculum, three have the Indian curriculum, two follow the American curriculum, one is based on the national standards for those with special needs and one follows the national standards, according to a press statement issued by the ministry yesterday.
The licensing procedures have been completed for three of these schools and kindergartens, including Pearl Modern School (Indian curriculum) located in Ain Khaled, which has a capacity of 1,099 students, al-Ghali said.
He stressed that the MoEHE is working on expanding options for the Filipino and Indian curricula as there is a big demand for them in view of the increase in the number of children from these two communities.
The official said the registration of students in private schools and kindergartens for the 2021/2022 academic year will remain open until October 14, while students coming from abroad can register until the end of January next year.
Al-Ghali noted out that a total of 111 schools and kindergartens are included in the educational coupons system, with four new schools added to this list this year. He added that the procedures for getting educational coupons for Qataris can be handled directly by the schools concerned and parents need not visit the ministry.
