HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani met on Tuesday with Executive Director for the UN World Food Programme David Beasley, who is currently visiting the country. The meeting dealt with reviewing bilateral relations and the partnership between Qatar and the UN WFP , as well as the latest developments in Afghanistan and how it reflects on the country's food security. HE Sheikh Mohamed stressed the importance of protecting civilians, intensifying efforts to reach national reconciliation, and working towards a comprehensive political resolution that guarantees a peaceful transition of power in Afghanistan, and addresses the deteriorating humanitarian conditions in light of current circumstances. Qatar allocated last month $100mn as a contribution to the UN WFP to support food security and prevent famine in Yemen, and to assist in the UN's aid and humanitarian programmes to curb the deterioration of the humanitarian tragedy there.
