The latest statistics published by 'Our World in Data', a scientific online publication compiling Covid-19 vaccination data from around the world, show that Qatar ranks among the world's top-performing countries for the vaccination coverage of its population.
Qatar is ranked second in the world in terms of the percentage of population that have received at least one Covid-19 vaccine dose, among countries with a population of more than 1mn, according to a Qatar News Agency report on Sunday.
'Our World in Data' also ranks Qatar fifth in the world in terms of the percentage of the population that is fully vaccinated, among countries with a population of more than 1mn.
Data released by the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) yesterday showed that 4,252,387 Covid-19 vaccine doses have been administered in Qatar since the start of the National Covid-19 Vaccination Programme, with 80.1% of the country's total population having received at least one dose of the vaccine. Also, 69.9% of the population have received both vaccine doses.
Further, the statistics reveal that 92.3% of the eligible population (12 years and above) have got at least one dose of the vaccine, with 80.6% of the eligible population getting both doses.
The MoPH explained that the success of Qatar's vaccination programme to date has been thanks to the overwhelming support of the community.
However, the ministry said there are still a small number of people who are eligible for the vaccine who have not yet accepted their invitation to get inoculated.
With the Delta variant posing a greater threat to people in Qatar and around the world, the MoPH has said it is extremely important that as many people as possible are vaccinated. The ministry has urged people who are not yet vaccinated to get the vaccine and play their part in beating Covid-19. Page xx
