Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art is set to hold a virtual public talk with researcher and independent curator Amal al-Haag on August 31.
The aim is to “dive deeper into how Somali artists and professionals in the cultural sector use the social media and digital culture as catalysts for understanding, recovery of lost histories, repair archives, and building relationships beyond political borders.”
The event, which forms part of Mathaf Talk and is scheduled to take place at 6pm (Doha time), will discuss how “Somali artists exchange knowledge and engage creatively across social, historical and socio-economic boundaries.”
The talk also highlights the contributions of photographer Mustafa Saeed, a Somali born artist and based in Hargeisa; and visual artist and Numbi founder Kinsi Abdulleh.
It will be delivered in English and Arabic via Zoom.
Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art Curatorial and Research produces a series of monthly online presentations, dialogues, and debates dubbed as ‘Mathaf Talk’.“It focuses on the key cultural urgencies in the transcontinental zones and their diasporas, ranging from Mali to China, and Spain to Indonesia, with which Mathaf is closely engaged.”
Saeed’s work explores different mediums, including documentary photography, graphics, and sound while Addulleh’s work “as an artist-educator focuses on social justice, histories, and the female voice.”
