The Public Works Authority (Ashghal), represented by the Quality and Safety Department, has won the first prize for 'Best Government and Public Service Sector' in the Health and Safety Performance for the Year 2020.
The award is granted by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA), managed by the Executive Committee and Board of Trustees under the patronage of the British Queen.
In a statement on Sunday, Ashghal explained it was selected from among 2,000 participants worldwide.
Ashghal's Quality and Safety team prepared the submission for the award with a high level of professionalism with more than 120 pieces of evidence to prove the level of occupational safety and health performance in the authority's premises and its projects, including managing issues related to Covid-19 and the commitment of employees, contractors and consultants with the precautionary requirements to protect workers.
Dr.
Ali Mohamed al-Marri, manager of Quality and Safety Department at Ashghal, said that such achievements prove the extent to which Ashghal is committed to local and international laws and standards of occupational safety and health, and also in preserving workers’ rights.
He also pointed to the great importance Qatar gives to issues of occupational health and safety for workers, and the steps taken in this regard, stressing Ashghal's keenness on implementing the highest standards of health and safety in worksites, workers’ housing, and ensuring their rights throughout the period of work in Ashghal projects.
Established in 1956, the RoSPA Health & Safety Awards offer organisations a prime opportunity to benchmark safety performance year on year and ensure consistent performance between sites.
They also provide an effective route to demonstrate an ongoing commitment to raising health and safety standards.
