Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) highlighted the key role played by aid workers and volunteers in humanitarian work, including those who died while performing their duties, to mark World Humanitarian Day 2021 on August 19.
As part of the celebration, QRCS launched a social media awareness campaign, themed “Not a Target”, to call for the protection of aid personnel who serve as frontliners, facing various challenges and risking their lives for a noble cause.
QRCS is also participating in the Humanitarian Work Forum 2021, organised by Qatar Charity (QC) in co-operation with Qatar University, which is being attended by QRCS CEO engineer Ibrahim Abdullah al-Malki and Volunteering and Local Development Division executive director Muna Fadel al-Sulaiti.
The global commemoration emphasises the direct impact of climate emergency on the most vulnerable people of the world, in addition to raising awareness of their problems, and supporting the efforts to deal with climate change.
QRCS is taking part in the global campaign themed “The Human Race”, and urged the public to practice any kind of physical activity such as walking, running, swimming, and cycling, among others for 100 minutes, as a call for climate action.
QRCS, in co-operation with Qatar Cycling Centre, held a group cycling event at the Lusail Multipurpose Hall, in which engineer al-Malki, members of the centre, QRCS staff and volunteers participated.
The public is invited to participate in a virtual campaign to show solidarity with the victims of climate emergencies. As part of ‘The Human Race’ challenge on Strava app, a participant can select a sports activity to exercise and record its completion by August 31.
Khaled Shaheen Ahmed, Disaster Preparedness Specialist at QRCS’ Relief and International Development Division, will attend a press conference organised by the Regulatory Authority for Charitable Activities today (August 19) as part of the celebration.
