While welcoming the new academic year, the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) completed work on the Community College of Qatar (CCQ) male campus in Al Kheesa, it was announced on Wednesday.
The building, which consists of four floors with an area of 13,650sq m, has various facilities and multi-purpose halls, according to a Ashghal statement.
While announcing the completion, engineer Ahmed al-Emadi, head of the Educational Projects Section at Ashghal, said this is within the framework of the country’s plan to develop and establish schools and various educational facilities.
“Ashghal completed the works in co-operation with the Community College of Qatar,” al-Emadi said. “This helps increase the student capacity and provide distinguished educational services.”
He noted that the female campus of the CCQ is to be completed by the end of 2021.
Al-Emadi said that the design of the campus provides educational, environmental, recreational and athletic amenities for students.
The ground floor includes a library, amenity lounges and rooms, a student hall, a lecture hall, and a book store.
The first floor has eight teaching halls, two meeting rooms, two IT laboratories, one control room, the main administration office, seven administration offices, eight college staff offices, and service rooms.
The remaining two floors include services such as electricity rooms, four service elevators, in addition to 138 parking spaces.
Engineer Obaid Rashid al-Athba, head of the Engineering Support Section at Ashghal, said that all construction works were carried out in accordance with local specifications and international standards.
“The implementation of this project took about 1.2mn working hours without any injuries. Ashghal applies all safety measures in regards to workers on this project,” he said.
Al-Athba explained that Ashghal’s Quality and Safety Department has also implemented a new work mechanism to monitor quality, safety and environment.
Specialists followed up the project for six months, which resulted in a simulation of implementing a new work mechanism for all building projects in Ashghal, and the subsequent comprehensive audit of the quality of the implementation and materials used, while taking into consideration the protection of the environment and the safety of workers.
The design has characteristics of the Qatari culture and follow the highest international fire safety standards.
There is a system to rationalise the use and consumption of water within and without the building.
This is in addition to protecting the environment during the project implementation period.
The new projects are a part of achieving Qatar National Vision 2030 that comes as a priority within Ashghal’s strategy of providing integrated infrastructure and public facilities that serve all sectors in Qatar, especially the health and education sector.
Educational projects occupy an important place among the projects implemented by the Buildings Department of Ashghal, in co-operation and co-ordination with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE).
The educational sector has recently witnessed a remarkable revitalisation through the opening of a number of advanced schools that are characterised by the innovative services and spacious buildings that enable them to accommodate large numbers of students.
