Hyatt Regency Oryx Doha partnered with Wa’hab for a campaign, in conjunction with the hotel’s suppliers, to donate essential food items for local communities in need.
The campaign is in line with Hyatt’s Global Month of Service and corporate social responsibility. It also aims to support underprivileged individuals and families in the country most affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Founded in 2017, Wa’hab, is an award-winning SME working to reduce food wastage and provide support to the communities in Qatar. By connecting surplus food to those in need, Wa’hab aims to promote social solidarity and protect the environment.
This initiative was spearheaded by Hyatt Regency Oryx Doha with the support of its suppliers who donated food essentials such as rice, flour, lentils, beans, and canned food items, among others. All collected donations will be distributed to people impacted by Covid-19 and others needing assistance.
In a statement, Hyatt Regency Oryx Doha general manager Julien Gonzalvez said: “At Hyatt, we are living our purpose to care for people and the community so they can be their best and I am glad that our suppliers share the same feeling to make this campaign come to life. The Covid-19 pandemic has affected the entire world immensely and such positive initiatives can bring smiles to the faces of people.”
Wa’hab founder and managing director Wardah Mamukoya said: “With such initiatives, we aim to partner with other hotels in town along with food outlets and charities to collect the excess food, package it and deliver them to beneficiaries. This results in optimal usage of food, thus saving the economy a loss in capital.”
