Doha: Qatar’s beach volleyball stars Cherif Younousse and Tijan Ahmed, who are taking part in the Tokyo Olympic Games, have clinched the World No 1 spot in the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) ranking for the first time, on Monday. They have ended Norway’s Anders Mol and Christian Sorum reign at the top of the charts as the new rankings placed Qatari duo right at the top with 5,160 points. Norway’s pair is at the second spot with 4,960 points.
The third seed Qatari pair defeated Switzerland’s Adrian Heidrich and Mirco Gerson 2-0 (21-17, 21-16) in their first Pool C match at the Shiokaze Park on Sunday.
